Jig fishing, or jigging, is a technique giving excellent results at sea. Originating in Japan, jigging is meeting more and more followers in all the seas of the world and particularly in Mauritius. It is a vertical fishing practiced mainly by boat although it is possible to fish from dikes and jets provided there is enough bottom. The jig is a metal lure that goes up at full speed with a specific movement designed to attract the finest fish.
It is practiced with a short fishing rod that must be powerful and adapted to the weight of the jig. The reel is strong and light. It must ensure a rapid rise of the lure. It is used as a braided wire which is very flexible. The bottom of the line is in fluorocarbon nylon for a better resistance. The weight of the Jig must be chosen according to the depth to which it is desired to fish and the currents.
Jigging is a fun and sporting fishing technique. It will require a lot of effort but with rewards to the height: very beautiful catches. See below a video of Tempo Fishing Club in full Jigging session.
